Alles Glück dieser Erde
Moltkerei Werkstatt e.V., Cologne 2023
invited by Alexander Pütz
In „Alles Glück dieser Erde“ Romina Abate asks how balance is established and what it means to relate to other bodies. Together with Astrid Küllmar from „moved by horses“ and animal co-coach Elvis, she approaches riding as a practice which provokes inner and outer movement, emotional arousal and physical relaxation. The photographs, drawings, and objects that are presented in the form of a course exemplify the artist‘s encounter with living and artificial horses, her environment, and, eventually, herself. In dialogue with a rocking horse and various props from the horse stable, she investigates how riding, its media representation, and linguistically linked metaphors are related to power and control, trust, closeness, as well as sexism and racism. Thereby, she draws on horse publications and text books for novice riders from the 1970s and 80s, and publications devoted to seafaring, the ocean, and the sexual behavior of sea creatures.
